Dog Insurance

Sadly, pets can become poorly or have accidents just as we can. Having insurance in place from the start means that you wont need to worry about the cost of any treatment your pet may need ( depending upon the exact policy you take) We also strongly advise taking insurance if you have a dog as we do see occasions where there are claims made for liability such as a dog running into the road and causing a car crash.

‘Even as a Vet, I have always insured my pets because I know I then have the freedom to afford the best tests, treatments and specialists available’

Insurance Types

provides cover for accidents only and no cover for illness eg if your dog was hit my a car but not if they had an upset tummy

Provides cover for a set amount of time (usually 12 months) and after this period, the condition is excluded eg if your dog developed arthritis, you would be covered ( up to a certain amount) for a year, but then, as the condition is usually both long term and can get worse with time, you would need to cover any costs on ongoing treatment and tests.

Maximum Benefit

Provides cover up to a maximum amount of money per condition and once this limit is reached, the condition is excluded. A similar example would be arthritis, as above, which affects the majority of dogs in their lifetime

Provides a set amount of money each year which is refreshed each time you renew your policy. This is the most comprehensive type of policy providing ongoing care though you usually have to pay your excess once a year if, for example, your dog developed a heart murmur, and needed to stay on tablets (some of which are very expensive!)

It can be really confusing, and costs that you likely to incur such as neutering, routine dental work and euthanasia are usually not included. Also, remember that if you switch your policy, you must let the new provider know if your pet has had any treatment or been diagnosed with any condition as they will not be covered under the new policy, and we see this happening often in practice unfortunately.

Our 'Peace of Mind'

Our Peace Of Mind Plan compliments pet insurance but does not replace it. We can help you spread the cost of keeping your pet protected with vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and many of the routine healthcare outgoings that insurance doesn’t cover.

When you have both together, you can get on with the best bits of owning a pet and leave the rest to us.

Healthy pets need ongoing care and attention, and with our peace of mind plan, we can help you cover for all their needs at an affordable monthly price, whilst making great savings. Because we want to keep your pets happy and healthy, we have developed Peace of Mind to ensure that your pet is protected against preventable diseases with the right vaccinations, flea, tick and worming protection and unlimited vet nurse appointments.
